Exporting list templates from MOSS 2007 to Sharepoint 2010

14 03 2011

Gotta jump through a little bit of hoops on this one. So if you have a sharepoint 2007 list and want to import into 2010 this is what you have to do:

1. download list to your computer- should be an stp file

2. rename file to cab

3. extract cab file using winzip or your favor cab extraction prog.

4. look for manifest.xml

5. open manifest.xml with any editor

6. look for the product version element. 3 is for wss or moss, 4 is for foundation and sharepoint 2010

7. save it as 4.

8. use cabmaker to recreate cab file.

9. rename cab file to stp.

10. if you installed winzip you might need to re show file extention:

  1. Open Folder Options by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clickingAppearance and Personalization, and then clicking Folder Options.
  2. Click the View tab, and then, under Advanced settings, do one of the following:
    • To hide file extensions, select the Hide extensions for known file types check box, and then click OK.
    • To display file extensions, clear the Hide extensions for known file typescheck box, and then click OK.

VOILA you should have it. Try it. IT works. I promise.
